Rose Hair Tarantula

GAIA EXOTICS

Species: Chilean Rose Hair Tarantula ( Grammostola rosea)

Care Level: Beginner Place of

Origin: Chile (South America)

General information: These are probably the best beginner arachnid hands down. The rose hair tarantula is a moderate and very docile species of tarantula, that can easily be held. As with most species of arachnids your tarantula may go through a molt 1-3 times per year. Molting is the process of the tarantula shedding its old exoskeleton. During this process the tarantula is very sensitive, and should not be held, or moved. Prior to the molt the tarantula will stop eating and appear more sluggish. They may also flip on its back. Do not be alarmed this is normal. Be sure to remove any live/ uneaten food from the enclosure at this time. Also make sure that the enclosure is fairly moist. Low humidity/ moister during the molt can lead to complications.

Housing/ lighting: Since they are a subtropical species they should be kept on a substrate that will retain moister (repti-bark, jungle mix, etc.). Make sure to keep them in a well sealed container (tarantulas can climb glass and escape easily). As with most species of tarantulas, you can only keep one Rose hair per enclosure. Keep the rose hair at fairly warm temperatures 75-85 degrees.

Feeding: Chilean Rose Hair Tarantulas should be fed an appropriate size prey item 1-2 times per week. We recommend feeding your tarantula primarily crickets that have been gut loaded. But they can also be fed pinkie mice, mealworms, grasshoppers, small lizards, and silkworms.
