General information: The Tokay gecko is one of the most beautiful species of gecko in the world, it is also probably the most aggressive. Dubbed the Pit Bull of the lizard world, the tokay will often lunge and inflect painful bites to any hand within reach. But many Tokays can be tamed with regular handling, especially baby Tokay Geckos. This species is a large robust species of gecko with males reaching a max size of about 12”. Average lifespan for the Tokay is 15-20 years with the record being 23 yrs. Tokay geckos like most species of Gecko will often grunt and bark when aggravated.

Housing/ lighting: This species should be housed singly especially males. You can house multiple females together or a single male to multiple females. Lost most species of geckos tokays can climb glass, so make sure you have a secure lid. Tokays require no special lighting but should be maintained between 80-90 degrees. It is recommended you provide this species with a hiding place, such as drift wood, half logs, or plants. Like most species of gecko the tokay is nocturnal. Tokays are a tropical species, so it is recommended that you keep them on a tropical bedding such as repti bark or jungle mix bedding. Mist the geckos 2-3 times a week.

Feeding: Tokay gecko should be fed 3-4 times a week. This species is prone to obesity so it is recommended to feed small meals 3-4 times a week, and to limit the amount of rodents being fed. Tokays will feed on a variety of prey items including: crickets, mealworms, wax worms, silkworms, roaches and small/ pinkie mice.
